We have just received an important notification from the WRDSB regarding school skating activities. We have been informed that in order to go skating, students and teachers must wear Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved head protection for skating activities while on the ice. CSA-approved hockey-style helmets bearing CSA certification or identification are required. Bicycle, ski and snow board helmets are not permitted for skating activities, as they are not designed for this purpose. In addition to this, students must wear properly fitted ice skates, as well as gloves or mitts, at all times when on the ice.
In previous years, it was recommended that students wear appropriate helmets.
Please note that effective immediately, the WRDSB requires that all staff and students in JK-12 wear CSA approved head protection designed for skating during all skating activities.
This directive includes our Lexington outdoor rink as well as our trip to RIM Park. The Waterloo Region District School board continues to place safety as a high priority for all of our staff and students. We believe that adopting this mandatory helmet policy will help protect students and staff during skating activities.
It is with sadness that we will have to cancel our Feb. 4th skating trip to RIM Park. The great news is that we will go ahead with our Feb. 25th trip. We hope that this will give families enough time to borrow or purchase a helmet. We have been able to rent the RIM field house for indoor PE activities for students who are unable to secure a helmet for the Feb. 25th trip.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the school’s skating program, please feel free to contact the school at 519-747-3314.
