This is reminder that the weather this week is expected to be very cold. Once the temperature with the ‘wind chill’ has surpassed approximately -20 degrees C, it is up to the principal to ensure that local circumstances make it safe to send students outside, or keep them inside if necessary. We check the temperature and wind chill throughout the day to ensure students are safe. Mitigating circumstances such as wind conditions, sun, protected areas, wind speed and sunshine are taken into account when making this decision.
We check in with the University of Waterloo weather station: http://weather.uwaterloo.ca and/or Environment Canada weather website: http://weather.gc.ca If it is deemed ok to send the students outside, we would like your assistance in making sure the students are sent to school with all the necessary apparel to stay warm and protected from the cold. This includes snow pants, hats, mitts and scarves. If your child enjoys building in the snow, it may be necessary for them to come with two pairs of gloves or mittens, in case the first pair are too wet for second break. Please know that we also monitor that students are dressing properly either through announcements or personal reminders.
